In Step With the Spirit
Denzil R. Miller
The overall thesis of this book deals with how a believer in Christ may live a life in step with the Spirit of God. It is a call to a deeper relationship with God through the Holy Spirit — a relationship resulting in Spirit control and divine guidance. The thesis does not just deal with one aspect of life in the Spirit, but covers several aspects. The goal of the work includes being a handbook for dynamic Christian living. The content is easy to share with others.
Because of the importance of the Holy Spirit’s work in and through the believer, this book is important and valuable to the body of Christ. From the writing, it is clear that there cannot be an exciting and productive Christian life without the Holy Spirit. Life in its fullness can only be possible when one walks in step with the Spirit.
The author has done a great job of making the content easy to read. The writing captures your attention and arouses interest in the Spirit. From the onset, the book engages one’s heart, making you want what is being discussed.
Miller develops his views from Scripture and supports them extensively with biblical references as he endeavors to communicate truth to the reader. The author stays away from denominational stances and chooses to argue based on biblical evidence.
Although this book does not thoroughly develop the topics shared, it covers the thesis in a holistic manner. Many works on a similar topic tend to develop only one aspect of life in the Spirit, leaving the reader with inadequate knowledge. Miller gives the reader a broad perspective of what it means to keep in step with the Spirit. The reader is introduced to the wonderful benefits available to believers who desire to keep in step with the Spirit of God.
The content is written in such a way that it is easy to apply to real life. One can read a chapter and immediately make application with life changing consequences. A great example is the chapter on “You can be filled with the Holy Spirit” (49-62). One could read that chapter and, without hesitation, apply its truths to receive the Holy Spirit. The book tends to arouse faith in the reader.
Miller has brought to light a holistic picture of what life in the Spirit is about. He has given the reader applicable ways in which to experience life in the Spirit. The instruction is in keeping with biblical teaching and has proven examples of success. This book is a "must have" for anyone who desires to go deeper in his or her spiritual life. It will not disappoint, but rather, arouse a desire and faith for the things of the Spirit of God.
